It is that time again, folks, albeit late again! This update brings us up to date with some of Linden Lab’s latest, and there are plenty of features and bug fixes from us as well. Our RLVa users will certainly appreciate Kitty’s work to update RLVa in the viewer to version 2.0. This also becomes the first release where we are not going to insist you perform a clean install!
We’ve changed things up a little bit to try to make updating easier for you. This time, just do an uninstall first, and then install the new version. We’ve documented the process. We do, though, still recommend you just in case!
NOTE 1: This release comes with a new feature from LL called JellyDolls, which renders complex avatars as a solid color. It is not a bug, and it is adjustable! More info on JellyDolls here More info on that is also on Inara’s blog post, linked below. NOTE 2: We do not have a Havok version for Mac or Linux this time around, Mac because of a conflict with the RLVa update and Linux because there are too few users who use Havok for mesh uploads or Pathfinding.
For those times when you need Havok functionality, you can briefly switch to the LL viewer. Sorry for the inconvenience. Below are just a few highlights that do not represent by any means all the great stuff in this release! For a complete list see or for a review of the highlights in greater detail, see Linden Lab-Specific Highlights Fully merged up to Linden Lab’s current release 4.0.6 codebase plus some cherry-picked fixes from upstream. Version 4.7.9 includes the following new features from the Linden Lab viewer: • Quick Graphics — custom graphics presets.
Posting Guidelines. Please use the Flair when posting. Adult topics or images should be marked as [NSFW]. Posts deemed to encourage or promote violation of the SecondLife terms of service will be removed. This includes harassment, griefing and trading Linden Dollars (L$, SLL).
The Quick Graphics feature lets you save optimal graphics presets for all different occasions and quickly switch between them using a new top-bar pulldown. • JellyDolls — avatar rendering complexity controls. A new Avatar Maximum Complexity control found in graphics preferences lets you prevent expensive avatars from lagging you. • The HTTP Project — a complete replacement of the under-the-hood HTTP infrastructure. They provide improved performance and stability, resulting in fewer problems with high-volume operations like loading inventory. Firestorm-Specific Highlights: • KDU updated to version 7.8, • RLVa updated to v2.0 —. The main changes in this update are: • Added RLV 2.9 camera commands/restrictions (vision spheres not yet included due to time constraints but coming soon!).
• Formalized documentation of the nine existing RLVa-specific commands and restrictions • Added five general new commands, 12 new camera-related commands and 14 extensions to existing commands. • Fixed a number of issues relating to folder locks (@unshared/sharedwear/detachthis/etc.).
• Creators/scripters, please read the full release notes. • For photographers — new option to disable default eye movements and blinking. • For builders — new option to show parcel boundary lines when building above ground level.

• For combat — avatar hitboxes are now colored in the same color as on the minimap to distinguish between friendlies and enemies. • Inventory — new filter to search inventory items by transferable permission. • UI — new look to the pie menu and login screen. • Windlight — the cloud density setting now updates correctly, resulting in better-looking clouds. • OpenSim — increased the maximum sound length to 60 seconds; improvements to var region handling, fixed IZURLs in Inworldz. • Many crashes fixes, bug fixes and performance improvements.
Sincerely, The Firestorm Team! What Lee is saying, what many of us long time players been saying, the ideas Linden has was valid but not correct to do.
Jelly is something that really isnt needed unless you in large crowds. And new players, those that I have talked with are not happy that they have this graphics mess-up. A few, even claimed they thought their computers couldn’t handle Second Life.
Thankfully, you can turn off the Jelly option on your viewer, though others shall still see you as one. I assuming that Firestorm has this option to turn it off too Still, it was a bad idea, and we are hoping Linden listens to us and removes it. From Princess Alexis Hannah Greymyst (username sissyalex starship)—>oh great you had to put that jellydolls/jjellybabies thing in it! I for one would be royally ticked off if I was told I look like some jellybaby.
I don’t thnk my avies are that complex to worry about it, but still. I think it gonna lead to a lot of support calls from frustrated people wondering what is going on. And I shudder to imagine what newbies will do when their 1st experience is seeing one of them. I will be either turning the feature off or setting the maximum level as high as possible. I have used Linux since 1998 and Firestorm since its inception. I also can upload mesh and need the havok stuff for the physics. As it is, I use the 32-bit version ONLY for mesh upload and the 64 for the time I actually spend inworld, since there is and has never been a 64-bit havok-enabled version of Firestorm.
I’m not about to use the LL viewer, but I’ll certainly be happy to use something else that provides the functionality that I need. The lack of a 64-bit havok for Linux has already trained me to close the viewer and load something else up.
It’s not that difficult to run something else entirely after I’ve shut down the 64-bit FS. But it certainly looks from my end that there is no case to be argued and that this decision is already made.
So mine shall be as well. I will not upgrade to this new version. When the current version is gone, I’ll have already migrated to something else.
Singularity, perhaps? Henri’s viewer? I don’t like, and don’t mean, to sound defeatist.
But one quick glance at the history of just about any multi-platform application with a Linux version will tell you why a principled user would stop using Firestorm. This decision recalls the last two decades for us and shows a disregard for the user base that already exists – under the guise of “critical mass.” SL is in decline in general. The FS team surely should see the writing on the wall, and they should have watched it expand when the first developer made this suggestion.
There aren’t enough users as it is, on any platform. I’ve been helping test the preview of this. It’s pretty solid and definitely handles sim crossing and memory usage better. I’ve not had to use the LL viewer to fly with. Custom graphics presets is a feature I’m surprised LL came up with first. They replace a lot of what I was using quickprefs for and do it far better. As for Jellydolls, It’s part of LL’s code, it was going to get included.
It’s not that bad. You can simply set it to no limit if you have a graphics card that can handle it. I have it set to around 200k for casual standing around, beyond that, my FPS takes a noticeable hit.
Most of the time, anyone over that is WAY over that. There will likely be some drama as some people realize that some of their AVs and apparel are badly overdetailed. Content creators will have to start paying attention to it and not meshing every stitch and buttonhole. Oh and flexi hair? I turned off notifications from others. All my AV’s and outfits are under 150k (most are under 100k) and if somebody can’t handle that, I’m ok looking like a jellydoll to them so they don’t get lagged.
I just don’t care to hear about it if that’s the case. I don’t know Red, that’s up to the devs. You can still upload mesh without Havok. You only need Havok if you need the auto-generated physics model. Most creators make their own physics models rather then use the Havok physics. You won’t ever have been able to use Havok on Linux to view the pathfinding navmesh anyway – the viewer will just crash if you try.
This isn’t something we can fix. LL will have to fix it in the Linux Havok blob they supply to TPVs. There probably isn’t much chance of that being done as LL do not support Linux now.
There are JIRA issues for the broken Linux Havok here: LL JIRA: Firestorm JIRA. Can you give me a SLURL to the location where you are seeing this happen?
Can you also tell me whether you are using the regions windlight there or the parcel windlight or your own local windlight choice. Or does this happen everywhere and with all windlight skies? There was actually a fix in 4.7.9 for a long standing bug which caused cloud coverage not to be set correctly. So I’m curious if you are seeing the clouds correctly for the first time. It may also be a bug of course 🙂 I need a test location where you can reproduce this so I can go & check it myself.
The cloud bugs that are fixed in 4.7.9 are: 1) – Cloud cover does not change with Day Cycle 2) – Region Windlight – Fixed Sky Cloud Coverage reverts to 0.27 when toggling view back to region sky Example sky showing correctly on 4.7.9: The clouds are not jumping here, it’s just the gif looping. Same sky on 4.7.7: This sky has a cloud coverage of 0.63.
4.7.7 is displaying the sky as if it had a cloud coverage of 0.27, which is incorrect. This release makes my framerate tank, im getting 5 fps in places where i got constant 25 to 30 in the previous version, with the same settings.
Even tried lower settings without result. That new jelly feature did nothing, i had avatar complexity on lowest, and my framerate would not get any better.
Attempted a clean install as well. Menus are unresponsive, takes almost 3 seconds from button click to the menu finally showing up, with the program freezing while its doing that.
I switched back to the previous viewer and everything works fine again. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz (4044.03 MHz) Memory: 16329 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 10586) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 780 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version:.6881 OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 368.81. Hey Whirly, Im having extremely low FPS issues, even in non-crowded areas all of a sudden with the update Ive had my client running for a few hours tonight (actualy found this thread in a google search trying to see if it ‘might’ be a client related thing). I KNOW my client shouldnt be performing as poorly as it is right now (im literally getting like 3-8fps), And the change happend overnight (think i did install the latest client and even changed a few options after the install). So i’ll see about uploading a Jira for you to look at after i get off for the nig ht. Then i’ll be installing a previous build on a seperate hard-drive and see how it performs. (going to go back 1 build and see if it goes back to how it ‘should’ be running).
I’m afraid we cannot do anything about false positive alerts from your antivirus software. Are using AVG? We’ve had problems in the past with AVG and the IDP.ALEXA.51 “virus”.
The other “general bahaviour slplugin” one is pretty common. A lot of antivirus software takes a dislike to the slplugin file in SL viewers. If you allowed your antivirus to block slplugin then your viewer will not have working media & web profiles & web search will be broken. If you report the false positive to the antivirus provider, they will fix the problem. In the meantime you may have a broken install if your antivirus has removed the slplugin file. If you open Search & go to the Web search tab and search is working correctly for you then you don’t need to do anything. If the Web search window remains blank then you” need to remove the slplugin file from your antivirus quarantine list.
If the antivirus actually deleted the slplugin file then uninstall the viewer then reinstall it to a different path & before launching the viewer, whitelist it with your antivirus software as instructed here. I don’t understand this – streaming media was working perfectly fine until I installed Firestorm. Now it won’t work at all, no matter what I check or do – not even when I go to clubs (although sometimes their media/music will randomly work for me). ‘Sounds’ works just fine, but not streaming media/music. I even followed another comment somewhere in here that advised installed Flash for Chrome because they said it wouldn’t work in Firefox (I only use Firefox) but a) Adobe would only let me install the player for FF and b) it fixed exactly nothing.
Clearly it’s not a Flash Player issue when everything was working perfectly until I installed Firestorm. I don’t know what else to do but I’ve wasted weeks following advice from various forums and comments to no avail and now it’s just really annoying. Did streaming music/media stop working when you installed Firestorm for the first time, or when you updated to 4.7.9? If you were previously using a different viewer before Firestorm, does streaming music/media still work on the other viewer? Parcel music streams should just play out of the box. The flash plugin is only needed for certain media streams, not for parcel music. Can you give me a SLURL to a location/s where you can’t hear parcel music and media?
Best thing to do to get 1-1 help for this is to file a JIRA issue () so we can get yoyr system information, logs & more details so we can work out what’s wrong. This will be fixable. 1) Huds should not be counted in the calculations HUDs do not count towards your avatar complexity reading. Your complexity reading can vary slightly though, you’ll often see it change by a couple of hundred if you move your camera position or teleport or change group tag – anything that will trigger updates or reload mesh LODs I guess. As for the clouds problem, hopefully we can get to the bottom of that once I have a location to test.
We cannot reproduce this so far but it may depend on certain windlight sky settings. It does and the situation seems worser. As before, after long cruises (flying or sailing with long drawing distances), my avatar looks fine in my viewer; but as I remove a layer (physics) to check (doing so seems to force an update), almost all my attachments are gone in my viewer. Before this release, I could use that workaround of turning AISv3 off in debug settings and the problem disappeared entirely in my case, but now it does nothing. Note: the description says it has no effect in Second Life. I don’t remember if the description was different before, however it worked and this workaround was posted by you among comments about version 4.7.1.
The Jelly thing is silly. The problem isn’t LL or creators, the problem is that most people don’t have a GPU to handle the load of Second Life. It was a problem when SL was first created, it’s a problem today, and it will be a problem forever. Linden Lab needs creators here making money and owning land.
So obviously, it’s smart to “Jelly” the people who buy the best stuff, all so that someone without the proper hardware to run SL can login and not be lagged, as they wander about, sim to sim, never spending a dime. It’s a bit too early to write some educated comments about the new release, but I can say that I’m glad that you implemented the “jelly avatars” feature. Still, you could have gone a bit further than LL did with it I mean selecting people from the nearby list and have them fully render that way, instead of having to click on them, which is a bit annoying. Maybe on the next release? (hint hint) Anyway, congrats to the team and many thanks for making the best viewer of all – can’t picture myself using any other, and I’ve been running Firestorm since my second week in SL. Mesh avatars use to render much slower than the usual ones. On crowded areas like Franks it might take a long time to see mesh avatars rezzed (or mesh clothes) and the avatars are meanwhile either invisible or nude.
I do not think that this is very useful. It seems to be silly to offer features like mesh etc and save money by using not enough servers as is habit in SL. Too many instances on a server cause lag, of course they do – even on almost empty regions as they are influenced by their lag causing neighbours if they are situated on the same server instance. Most of the lag in SL is an issue of LL not of overloaded avatars (that too but not basically) or overloaded regions and not at all of the viewers. Give the features and they will be used. It is much cheaper to introduce jelly dolls instead of upgrading the hardware and debugging the software.
Great release FS-Team! Thanks for that!! As for the jelly-stuff Reasonably, it’s a great feature, because it gives own control over what one’s graphics can handle.
The problem is however, how it’s going to be utilized. I can already hear the “complexity police” yelling at people, see sim admittance signs “No complexity above 150k allowed!” and stern uninformed estate managers waving fists at anyone who chooses to have a more complex AV. Not that this makes any sense, just like the infamous “script police”, blaming running scripts and script time – displayed on fancy stigma boards – on everything that spells L.A.G., regardless of it’s type and technical origin. (Yes folks, there’s lag and there’s lag and your lag is not necessarily my lag and maybe it’s not even lag in the first place. *insert shocked emoji here* ). Anyway, I shall have an eye on complexity and sure, if something is pourly made in that regard, why not avoid that load. Improvement is perpetual.
But I will certainly not let other people’s graphics capabilities dictate how I look. If I wanted low-poly and low-res on everything, I would go to Minecarft. It’s a matter of balance, as with most things in all lives. Jellily yours, PeeBee.
Places that enforce a maximum complexity? Avatar rendering cost / complexity isn’t a new thing at all and there places enforcing a max ARC/Complexity since a while. If you use to go to the monthly midnight madness, you can see some. That’s good in crowded places. Think if everyone uses very high complex avatars in a crowd There isn’t just you and it isn’t just a matter of to choose to have a complex avatar or not, there is also respect for others. Your freedom ends where my nose begins. On the contrary, Jelly dolls allows anyone to almost derender you and all the unoptimized avatars around automatically, so to enforce a max complexity would be no longer necessary.
You will simply look like a jelly doll. Alright so I need to report some stuff to JIRA when I get home from work, but if anyone else is using the new 64 bit version for Windows on Win10 and experiencing my issues, please feel free to make the initial JIRA ticket.
I’ve noticed two big BAD differences already upon installing this. First, I use the popular chibi avatar *NAM* Chibi. It is a Fitmesh/Rigged avatar that deforms, and changes the height of the avatar. Now the mesh doesn’t adjust height and I have to use the hover slider. I am unsure if this bug affects other rigged meshes yet so if people run in to this problem, then we start pooling in that it is a global problem that is beyond just this one avatar brand.
Second, I am experiencing laggy second lock ups which are acting like a reduced SYSTEM frame rate. Things were beautiful and smooth on the previous build and then when I went to close Firestorm to deal with this crap later, the program stopped running in error and had to be closed via that error message. Something is seriously wrong with this build and I’ve barely used it.
Geminai, it sounds like the viewer crashed logging out of you saw an error message pop up. Can you remember the exact error message?
I explained above how to add your logs to your JIRA issue. Hopefully the logout crash is captured in those & we can tell what caused it. As for the hover height issue with your chibi avatar, I don’t think anything was changed in that area of the code.
I’ll need to get the avatar for testing. I’m guessing it’s one of these avatars?
Can you tell me which one you have? Thank you for the help on that one! I don’t know how or why, but my shape changed to 51! Looks all good there. Such a weird issue to suddenly happen. As for the logs of my crash earlier, I’m sorry I logged in since then in an attempt to replicate the issue and get new logs. Though two times earlier I experienced wicked fps drops and one crash, now everything is fine.
That’s a really good thing! Maybe the system was just getting used to things and making new entries or something. Thank you for your time. It’s hard to tell from the image what’s wrong or how that scene is supposed to look.
Can you explain in more detail what the problem is? Is it the grid lines on the blue texture in the background? Though that may be the intended look. Are the textures corrupted on the dragon? Hard to say if that’s the design of the dragon or a problem with rainbow speckly textures.
The image does look somewhat grainy, but it’s hard to say if that’s just the image quality or you are using custom ambient occlusion settings or something else. The Maximum Complexity setting will only change whether you view other avatars as a JellyDoll or not.
It won’t affect rendering of non-avatar objects in the scene. Is that dragon an avatar or a statue?
Ever since updating just now I’ve been having major problems regarding attaching/detaching objects, tattoos and alphas. I seem to be able to change some items, where others either won’t attach at all or attach and then don’t let themselves be detached. Same with alphas and tattoos. It forces me to turn off the viewer and log in again to take off one or two things, just to have it happen again. Also having an error as soon as I turn off the viewer, it freezes as the logging out begins and then crashes and comes up with “Firestorm has stopped working”. After my experience with 4.7.7 I am literally Scared to update.
Before 4.7.7 was “forced” on me, I had no problems and little crashes. I was forced to update to 4.7.7 last month have had non stop problems with freezing, crashing, and not responding in places I never had that problem in.
I can’t even have my web browser open while logged in SL anymore or I’ll freeze, not respond and crash. So I am VERY reluctant to update and am VERY VERY Unhappy with FS and LL right now for installing features that are not needed, just desired because all the computer geeks want to have cool computers. Until I know these problems are not happening on someone that does not have a super computer. @VampKat Haven 4.7.9 is actually a much better update, for most users. As the new JellyDoll’s function actually does improve, some of the issues with lag.
As well as that a lot of the locking up, that I also experienced with 4.7.7 when I was beta testing it. Has actually gone away on 4.7.9. But just like Jessica pointed out, it is not being forced upon you. And you are more then welcome to go back to one of the older viewers. As Firestorm keeps 3 active builds. The current and two older viewers versions, for those who have problems with the current build before the 4th build is put on the chopping block.
But please give 4.7.9 the benefit of the doubt, and give it a try if you do not like it and it does not preform better for you then 4.7.7 then you can always go back two one of the two older builds not due for the chopping block. Yes you can 🙂 To disable only the notifications reporting that other avatars may not render you or now everyone sees you correctly, go to Preferences ->Notifications ->Alerts.

Ok tx Whirly Fizzle 🙂 TOTAL, minus reserved VM space 588.5M Whirly Fizzle b, it’s perfectly normal to have 4 slplugins running on the system when logged in with any SL viewer. The viewer spawns & culls slplugins as needed.
A new slplugin will be spawned each time you open a profile (to load the web components), open search (needed for web search), open an internal web browser, open the destination guide, have parcel media playing, you are near any MOAP content etc. The viewers have worked this way ever since webkit was added back in Snowglobe. Reply What problems are you actually having?
You didn’t say apart from you had 4 slplugins running (which is normal). Reply problem: all is GRAY, fully laggy log in to Mac OS X 10.8.5, then test it too so.

There’s nothing you can do to fix this, it’s a known bug on Windows Vista only. The only current fix would be to update to at least Windows 7.
For details see: The “SLPlugin.exe has stopped working” messages are actually harmless, they are just annoyingly spammy. You should actually have working slplugin & working media. SLPlugins are constantly being spawned & killed by the viewer. For some reason on Vista each time an SLPlugin is culled, you will see an “SLPlugin.exe has stopped working” message. This will need a code fix in the viewer, or a fix from CEF. I doubt CEF will fix it though because they stopped supporting Vista at the same time as XP. If you mean the Firestorm install folder appears to be empty, it can’t be or the viewer wouldn’t run 🙂 Did you maybe choose a custom install path?
If you installed the 64bit version of Firestorm, the default install folder is C: Program Files, not C: Program Files (x86) The LL viewer is 32bit only & by default it will always install into C: Program Files (x86) If you deleted your slplugin.exe file out of the LL viewer install folder, you will have broken media. No inworld media will play & you will be unable to view any profiles or use search. You don’t want to delete slplugin.exe 😉.
Yeah this could be a bug & it needs looking into. Changes were made on 4.7.9 to do with how much texture memory you are allowed to set.
4.7.9 64bit versions now allow you to set up to 2048MB texture memory if your card has at least 4 GB memory. If your card has 2 GB memory, you should be able to set up to 1024MB texture memory in the viewer.
We have had a few reports on 4.7.9 that this is bugging out, mostly on systems with AMD graphics. The texture memory is being clamped at a really low value on certain systems. One user found that the cause appeared to be the latest AMD graphics drivers, After she rolled back to the previous driver, the problem was fixed. I don’t suggest you roll your driver back yet though.
Can you file a JIRA issue () so we can get your full system information & viewer logs. THis is most likely fixable for you by changing a debug setting in the viewer (to disable WMI probing) on 4.7.9, but I want to get your logs first to see whats causing the problem 🙂.
Meet The Spartans Full Movie In Hindi Download Hd here. The only part of pathfinding that Havok is needed for is viewing the Navmesh, which is really only needed if you are creating your own pathfinding characters or debugging problems with the navmesh on the region. Build ->Pathfinding ->View/Test ->Tick Navmesh. This actually never worked on Havok enabled Linux builds because the Linux Havok blob was always broken. The viewer would just crash attempting to render the navmesh. This is something only LL can fix in the Havok blob that they supply to TPVs for Linux.
Bug reports: LL JIRA: Firestorm JIRA. Yeah the Vista problems started with the CEF changes in 4.7.7 when webkit was replaced with the Chromium Embedded Framework. As far as I’m aware though, the only problem specific to Vista is the frequent “slplugin has stopped working” popups. Vista is on borrowed time though.
Chromium & Chrome web browser have stopped supporting Vista & if/when CEF gets updated in the SL viewers, Vista will most likely not be able to play any media content, including the ability to use search & see web profiles. As always, thanks to everyone at Firestorm for their time, dedication and generosity. Since installing the latest version, I have a consistent minor problem. When I log out, about 50% of the time everything freezes and I get a ‘Not responding’ error message. When this happens, half the time the program closes anyway a few seconds later, but half the time I have to go through the Ctrl/Alt/Delete routine. I use two computers, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 10. The same problem occurs on both computers.
It’s hardly a major issue, but irritating nonetheless – especially if I’m about to get caught! Heya Volmarr, You can already disable the avatar complexity notifications. Setting the ‘Warn me if my avatar complexity may be too high’ alert to “Never show” will disable the alerts giving you feedback about if your avatar is fully rendered to everyone on the region or whether some avatars are rendering you as a JellyDoll. To disable the other avtar complexity notifications, please do the following: Activate the Advanced menu in the top menu bar using CTRL+ALT+D. Advanced ->Show Debug Settings ->ShowMyComplexityChanges ->Set this to Zero. Does that work for you? Well here’s my opinion the new Firestorm BLAH!!!!
That’s what I think of the new version I will tell you why. Because of the fact that it closes on it’s own and the jellydoll stuff is completely utterly useless. And, I top of that I don’t really go to really big crowds that much because i am noticing memory leaks in the new firestorm. It uses up all my memory on my computer and I have 8 GB of ram.
So, going to places with big crowds causes my computer to freeze up badly. I suggest figuring out how to fix the memory leaks before it does some damages to computers. If the viewer is crashing (closing on it’s own), can you file a JIRA issue () so we can see why you are crashing. If the viewer is using 8 gig of your RAM, that certainly isn’t normal. Please file a JIRA issue so we can investigate what’s causing the problem.
Note: If you have full res textures enabled, disable that setting. Lot’s of “help” notecards passed around recommend enabling this setting, which will do nothing more then give you a great big memory leak & it should never be enabled apart from by developers needing to reproduce a memory leak for debugging purposes. Here is something for your next TPV Meeting Why is it that something gets implemented, that gives the constant annoying SLplugin popups from a company that (was said here earlier) stopped supporting Windows Vista and probably not going to fix this. Yes, it also happens on the Linden Viewer. Linden Labs still does support Windows Vista. And yeah, I am going to get Windows 7 soon since it was said that is the only option to solve something that this other company should fix.
(Which I find a bit unacceptable to shovel a problem onto Vista users. That is not what I call, support.). Well, to be fair, when webkit was replaced by CEF in the viewer, CEF hadn’t announced they were pulling Windows Vista support. The version of CEF currently used in the viewers (already outdated) does still support Vista. I don’t know whether the Vista slplugin problem can be fixed in the viewer code or whether the fix would have to come from CEF (which won’t happen now they removed Vista support). I also don’t know if or when CEF will be updated in the viewers to a version that doesn’t support Vista at all.
I imagine CEF will be updated sooner rather then later to stay on top of security fixes though. OMG whatever changes you made FIX THEM! I am constantly losing my huds, my ears, my jewelry, and a lot of times, when I re-log I end up back in an old outfit complete with different color nails, and everything I just adjusted back to un-adjusted.
I HATE THIS UPDATE with a passion!!!! Jelly babies is bad enough (punish the ones trying to look good, and NO not in nub items but brand new high quality event items) but this update is a pure nightmare! Going back to old version until you figure out what you’re doing!! The voice problem, where you sometimes get the “We are unable to connect to the voice server” message at login is a known issue.
I filed a bug report for this on the LL JIRA (the bug affects all viewers with coroutines + the new voice version): When this happens, if you disable voice from Preferences ->Sound & Media ->Voice ->Enable voice, and then re-enable voice, voice should connect & remain stable for the rest of the session. Can you file a JIRA issue so we can get your logs to see why you are crashing: Note that if you are getting disconnected (You have been disconnected from Second Life, View IM/quit), rather then crashing, especially on teleport, if you are only getting disconnected when attempting to teleport out of a certain region, that region likely has caps fail (which will also cause voice to not connect for anyone logging into that region). If this sounds like the problem then that region needs to be restarted to fix it. If the viewer is actually crashing to desktop rather then being disconnected, we need your logs to know what’s causing it.
I have the same problems with crashes on this one. I rarely ever crashed on any previous Firestorm updates, but this one causes at least 3 a day. No warning, just poof!, and SL is gone. I’ve tried changing every setting I can think of, and nothing works (I’ve been around since SL began, so I’m pretty adept at tweaking as needed). Anyway, I will be going back to the previous version. The viewer works great besides the random no warning crashes, so hopefully the next update will work better with my computer 🙂. It was explained why a couple of times in the above comments.
The earlier versions of Firestorm had a Mac 32bit Havok viewer available yes. Unfortunately the Mac viewer will no longer compile with Havok because of recent changes to the viewer codebase that came with the new RLVa code.
This is a problem that needs to be fixed in the Havok code, which we do not have access to. The Havok library for Mac needs to be rebuilt with -stdlib=libc++ We are waiting on Linden Lab to do this & Oz Linden said this would be done fairly soon. So this is just a temporary delay. For details please see. Mmh I have to say I am not very enthusiasted about the new version 2.7.9. I found a lot of small annoying things no longer working well for me.
So, if in building menu, when editing an object I find myself always on the create tab instead of staying on edit tab. Links in chat are sometimes not completely underlined and so cannot be used except you copy and paste them by hand. The jelly avatars and the complexity for me is not a feature but more crap, and I am missing the havoc on my linux too now – and finally I expected RLV2.9 to be completely updated – it is still the mouselook missing. Darn – every stupid ego shooter is in mouselook completely – and noone has a problem with this. I will go back to Firestorm 4.7.7 now. “when editing an object I find myself always on the create tab instead of staying on edit tab.” This one’s an edge case bug that’s new on 4.7.9. It will happen when you have @fartouch=n active.
We have a bug report filed for that here If you remove the @fartouch=n restriction the bug won’t reproduce. “Links in chat are sometimes not completely underlined and so cannot be used except you copy and paste them by hand.” I can’t reproduce this one. Can you give me some example links that reproduce that problem? Please try the following to fix this problem: 1) If you have not already done so since this problem began, reboot your computer and totally power off your router/cable modem for a good 10 minutes and then try again.
2) Flush your DNS cache. Instructions on how to do this are here: 3) If still no luck, try changing over to using Google Public DNS. Instructions on how to do this are here: 4) DNS errors might also be caused by anti-virus software. F-secure and Avast are particularly bad for this.
F-Secure (and possibly other anti-virus software) can give DNS errors when you try to log into SL using a viewer (any viewer). The option scan and remove viruses from internet traffic will effectively prevent login.
You can either disable this option or find a way to exclude the viewer from the check. If you are using Avast, Go to Avast ->Realtime shields ->file system shield ->Expert settings ->exclusions ->add ->Left Right Left Songs 320kbps Free Download. browse to the SecondLife Viewer install folder 5) Do you use a proxy redirector, for example ProxyCap? This can also cause DNS errors when trying to login to Second Life. Does it make sense now to make your avatar beautiful? Does it make sense now to buy clothes for your avatar? Need Is Now typing, teleport, gadget? Why make a purchase when in the eyes of others you jelly?
Many love to dress your avatar. But now it makes no sense. Many people create things for avatars and sell them. But that also now makes no sense.
Imagine how complicated the business. And how many people we are losing now. Who wants to play with jelly? If a person has problems with graphics – let him bother with the settings. You can’t do this by default. Please, do not spoil the game. I love her so much!
Designers and makers that know what they are doing? You can’t get around complexity (stupid word, but it’s the word they are using) if you are using a skin that may be a bit more graphic heavy, or cloths that are high quality. High quality = higher complexity.
Cloths makers that use GOOD LOOKING TEXTURES will have HIGH COMPLEXITY. This tool is going to promote using low textured, no prim clothing. This is a failure to me. If you are having issues running SL, in any viewer, UPDATE YOUR COMPUTER!
I’m currently running on a dual booted MacBook Pro from 7 years ago, in case your thinking I’m running some high end gaming machine. “High quality = higher complexity.” Absolutely not.
It is totally possible for a creator to make high quality looking items that do not have an overly high complexity. It all depends on the skill of the creator and whether they understand how or bother to spend the time optimizing their content.
Please take the time to read this blog post by Penny Patton: She explains how she got one of her role playing avatars down from 207,884 complexity to just 35,827 and the end result looks hardly any different from the original. This is something that any SL creator can do. If they do not yet have the skills to do this then it’s quite possible for them to learn. I was about to say something about the avatar complexity thing, and noticed others already made mention of it.
A fur now has complexities of 130k average, and that’s without cloths or anything else on (includes mesh breast or genitals) How on earth do you think I’m going to support and keep using a viewer that will punish me by making my avatar a terrible looking jelly thing when I’ve put so much time and money into making my avatar look how I want it to look? This is pathetic, and honestly, makes me not want to keep using this viewer and if official SL viewer is doing the same then its time to stop supporting them. Um, I use anthro AV’s and most of them are pretty reasonable.
Certainly not the 130k you claim. And it’s not Firestorm that did this, it’s Linden Lab. It was a feature that pretty much had to be adopted. You’ll always look ok to you. I don’t have a high end system by any means and keep my setting at around 190k. Beyond that, the drop in performance isn’t worth my rending your AV.
You get to decide where your complexity will be. My usual stand around AV is around 65k. I have outfits and AV’s that hit the 130 range, but I know if I use those that some won’t see me properly. I’ve accepted all bullshit you asked for since Win XP support been stopped I’ve installed Win7 (as second OS) and all latest drivers, patches, packs etc for my hardware + of course, your ShitstormViewer, so what i have now? That shit crashing every 2-3minutes, memory leaks during 1 minute after launching the viewer. Trying different setting only lowest one let it work for at least 15 min, even official LL viewer is more stable! WinXP+FS4.6.9 are still working excellent for hours on middle settings Oops.
I mean not FS but CTRLALTStudio. Fuck you very mush, FS assholes.
I start to get quite unhappy lately with Firestorm. When will you get rid of the ads on V 4.7.7.48706? I am so tired to be careful to not click anything on the launcher except the log-in button because of those nasty ads.
(see screesnot below) The same goes for the built in search. Randomly when i open search, even if i don’t go on the websearch tab where the pop-up is happening, the ads will manifest as sounds on my chanel as like someone is on my sim next to me with loud gadgets or open voice chat. Is really bothersome. I mainly use Firestorm to design my products for my clothing brand, is really unpleasant to not know why are all those ads on the viewer. I did not installed any third party softawre except your Firestorm and SL exe files. I don’t understand what is happening. I see there are other people complaining about this as well.
Please get rid of them! Also i am constantly crashing when i am doing high res pictures with ambient occlusion on and shadows enabled, because of the too many llceflib.exe processes that makes my system constantly scan them as they are something suspect making my memory sky rocketing at 99% and my pc freezes, shutting down the game. Is highly frustrating for a designer.
When you will find a solution for this? The latest release 4.7.9 is a nightmare and i will not update until you don’t fix the already too bugged 4.7.7.
I must specify that i run on a PC with high end specs, built to run much heavier games, and i never had problems with either Firestorm or SL viewers previous those two releases. You must do something to fix those bugs, Firestorm has become unplayable for me. Thanks for reading. Those adverts you are seeing on the login screen & when using the viewer search are not from Firestorm. We have seen several people having the same problem & the cause is malware on the system, probably a browser hijacker.
Be sure to do a full system scan with your antivirus software. I’m afraid we can’t fix this, you will have to locate the malware on your system & remove it. Regarding the crashing when taking large sized snapshots with shadows enabled.
The usual cause of this is having the shadow quality set too high for what the system can handle. Pushing up the shadow quality is really pretty brutal on the system when taking large sized snapshots. Go to Preferences ->Graphics ->Rendering ->Quality of the shadows. Put this setting back to 1.0 (default) and see if you still crash. If that does not help: Top menu bar of the viewer, World ->Photo & Video ->Phototools On the Light tab and the DOF/Glow tab, click all the “D” buttons to reset all the shadow, ambient occlusion, DOF & glow settings back to default & see if this fixes the crash. You should also add the llceflib_host.exe and slplugin.exe process to your antivirus whitelist. Instructions on how to do this can be found here: I would fix the malware problem before you do this though.
Hi, thanks for your reply. First: I done a complete scan of my system with Microsoft antivirus and Antimalaware Bytes and no virus or trojan or any of sorts was found on my pc. I never get those kind of advers anywhere, on any program/game/browser i use, except Firestorm. How can you explain that? Because i can’t find an explanation to it, seen my PC is clean.
Second, i did step by step what you advised me about the crashing when taking high res pictures. Indeed i stopped crashing, but! The quality of the screeshots at 4500×3500 in png (lossless) has decreased considerably.
Is not even near to what is used to be before i followed your suggestion. Now i don’t know what exactly have been modified on my viewer to decrease that much the quality of the screenshots, but i am really unhappy with it. Any suggestion on how to fix that, and what might have happened? Glad that fixed the crashing. Can you give me a link to an image you took that you’re not happy with the quality of and also a link to an older image you took where the quality is what you expected? I can’t guess what’s wrong without seeing an example poor quality image. Re the adverts – do you have any kind of “game enhancement” software installed on your computer that could be adding those adverts?
I can promise you that it’s something installed on your system that’s causing it. The hard part is finding what that is. Can you do another scan with an additional antivirus software to see if anything is picked up? Hitman Pro () is okay: You can use Hitman Pro alongside your usual antivirus software and it’s free for 30 days for scans and removals. You don’t actually have to install this software, you can run it off a USB stick. Sadly, this is the first Firestorm version I have had to uninstall and revert back to the previous version.
Not exactly sure what is up, however, I do seem to experience an awful memory leak which eventually renders my viewer useless and crashes it. My framerate would drop dramatically (in one place as an example from 50fps to less than 9 when I finally figured out what was happening and thought to watch.) Confirmation of the trouble was in logging out and back in, my problem would be resolved.
Now that I have reverted back to 4.7.7, I am not experiencing this issue. I also noted that 4.7.9 was using a significant more amount of memory versus 4.7.7 and that this memory would increase over time. I hope whatever this issue is, it gets fixed. Doesn’t seem I’m the only one having these kind of troubles. I hope turning it off will stop the ever annoying pop-up at top right, telling me my avatar will/will not be seen. It randomly appears for no apparent reason, even if I didn’t change a thing on my avatar. I guess it may be good for somethings, but as a builder, I don’t care if they see me as a Jellyfish, or an orange cloud, or not at all, lol.
Another note, is there a way to rid the Graphic Preset in top right bar of FS 4.7.9.50527, or least make it a click to drop it down? Auto mouse over activating is really, really, REALLY annoying, hear that MS? Turning off jellyDolls (setting Maximum Complexity to No Limit in graphics preferences) will not stop the complexity notifications.
To disable those, do the following: 1) Preferences ->Notifications ->Alerts. Move “Warn me if my complexity may be too high” into the “Never Show” section at the bottom. This will turn off the feedback that other avatars on the region may not be rendering your avatar. 2) Activate the Advanced menu in the top menu bar with CTRL+ALT+D.
Advanced ->Show Debug Settings ->ShowMyComplexityChanges ->Set this to zero. This will turn off the notifications giving your own avatar complexity each time it changes. Graphics presets rollover: Preferences ->User Interface ->Top Bars ->Enable mouse rollover popup on status bar menu icons ->Untick this. Note that this will disable the media rollover menus too. I’ve been using the latest and greatest for a while now, and like so many others I’m less happy with it than the previous version. Rezzing seems to take much longer, and I can do without the jelly stuff although I have my complexity set to No Limit, so I don’t see them any more.
I feel for those who don’t have a fire breathing machine which seems to be needed more and more with every new version. And, the newest version of FS is a real resource hog. I realize that many of the changes are driven by LL and are not the fault of FS, but still, it would be nice to see a “stripped down” version of FS for those who don’t have the horsepower to properly run the new versions, or don’t use many of the features. There are a lot of “features” built in that I don’t need or want. Let builders build and scripters script can script all the want and those who want to use RLV should be free to do so, but why not make those things available to those who want or need them and not bog down my computer with so much stuff I rarely use? Perhaps such things could be add-ons to a more basic version of FS.
Rezzing speed shouldn’t be any different to the previous Firestorm releases. The problem may be caused by your antivirus software not liking the new version of Firestorm – it’s always a good idea to whitelist the viewers cache folder in your antivirus software – see If you are using Webroot antivirus software, then this is know to cause severe slow loading of textures and mesh. Webroot doesn’t allow whitelisting of folders & it’s best to switch to a different antivirus software.
If you don’t think it’s your antivirus causing the slow rezzing, then please file a JIRA issue () so we can get your system & connection info and viewer logs & investigate what’s causing the problem. If you want a stripped down version of Firestorm without all the features, then really – that would be the Linden lab official viewer 😉 It isn’t really possible to make a stripped down version of Firestorm because different people would want to keep different Firestorm features and remove others. There’s the official LL viewer & some other TPV’s that are more basic if that’s what you prefer. I’m trying this new version for the 2nd time. I fly planes and sail boats.
Noticing that sim/region crossing is much more laggy with this version. I did the install based on the new method mentioned.
After a few months, got fed-up and reverted back to 4.7.7. Problem fixed. After another month, I decided to give it another try.
This time I did a clean install of 4.7.9. Problem came back. I’m thinking of reverting back to 4.7.7 until this problem is fixed. Would love to know what is causing this and also if there is a fix I could do from my end at client side.
