Hi, I just upgraded my ride to a 2005 E200 (this: ) and it comes with the COMAND APS DVD SYSTEM. According to the sales guy, the unit cannot play MP3, but after googgling for a while, some threads in mbworld and gpsunderground says that the firmware could be upgraded to play MP3 files. Does anyone know how??? I am trying to find the firmware file online, it is in a torrent file but little seeder.

Regards Damien mine is 2006 and can play the CDS with MP3 files leh, according to what I know use the newer version of navigation CD and when u insert first time.it would recognise and update automatically.else you can ask C&C if they upgrade for free. Does your has enable video in motion already.it can be done on 2005 models via engineering menu. Oh okay, so good. My previous C180 cannot play mp3, so i quite gian this function. About my unit, hmm I am not sure yet. Even the sales person doesn't know the version of the Comand APS unit. Let me get my car first.

I heard updated to latest version, the engineering menu disappears ah.? Mine is not the updated one just late 2005 CD, in fact I am looking for newer version. I can lent u anytime just PM me.but I am not sure if it really can update itself.what i see from US forum is that it is able to do so. Mercedes COMAND HEAD UNIT Service CD W211 589 14 22 00 This is for 2003-2006 models with command unit.might also work for 2007-2009 yr model use google Use this CD to update the COMAND Head Unit to software version 46/06. Unzip the archive and burn all of the files onto a regular CD-R disc, making sure that your software finalizes the disk when it's done. I use NERO, and on NERO it is listed under the 'burn' tab on the verification screen just before the CD starts burning. Once you have the CD, power up your COMAND unit, briefly hold down 1,3,8 at the same time, and the service screen should come up asking you to insert the CD. Insert the CD and the update will begin automatically. VERY IMPORTANT.DO NOT CHANGE SETTINGS OR TURN IGNITION ON OR OFF DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS. Once the CD is done updating, it will eject the CD and the COMAND unit will restart itself.

That's all there is to it. My unit is a 2005 version, and I cannot attest to weather this will work in other versions, but I have read that it will work on all COMAND units. If you do not have the Nav module, then this should still update your audio SW. But only if you have the COMAND Head Unit (the one with the large screen).

If you have the smaller unit, I think it's called the Audio 50 (but don't quote me on that), then I don't think this will work for you. Also, this IS NOT a map disc. This is simply the SW update for the COMAND system itself.

1) No MP3 in CD6 (my W211 was built in 10/03) 2) It erased all of my radio presets, as well as all of my VCS data (really annoying!) 3) No more access to the Engineering Mode with the previous method (Is there a 'new' key sequence that works?) 4) The CD slot in the COMAND no longer loads discs. If the motor fails and/or CDs/DVDs don't get read anymore you most likely need a new drive. If you need a new drive, PM me as I would need some information from your COMAND because over the years Harman/Becker used different drives and if it doesn't match the one you have now it might not play/work right. You can compare that with a tire and a rim. The tire will work on a rim but if the wheel is not balanced it just doesn't work right.

Yup it won't. MY05 the CD changer became MP3 capable (MY09 it became a DVD changer). However, starting MY05, the COMAND didn't come with the secret DVD drive anymore so u still get more music on 1 DVD-R vs 6 CD-R's has anyone else confirmed if dual layer DVD-R's work? And also do DVD+ work with this?My HU has a Dual-Layer DVD/CD ROM drive.

It works like a charm DVD+/- both work with the unit. However DVD-R are usually the better choice (not just for the HU) btw. My car is a 2004 and CDC also plays mp3's. Did you burn your cd as data cd or as ISO also, can you now see song info, like title, and artist and song name.
